Compared are the cut Syndicated Version (UK Blu-ray by Fabulous Films / First Edition) and the uncut Original Version (German DVD by Universal).
- 7 cuts (= 314.8 sec resp. 5 min 14.8 sec)
- 1 additional scene in the Syndicated Version (= 67.2 sec resp. 1 min 7.2 sec)
- Length difference: 247.6 sec resp. 4 min 7.6 sec
Please note: Minor differences such as missing credits, missing or different black screens etc. have not been listed in the following comparison. The focus is on the alteration made for reruns in syndication and that is it.
Basically, the UK Blu-ray is a highly recommendable release even though some people complain about the abscene of the TV movie "Knight Rider 2000" because it is available as bonus of the DVD release. The problem is that this was originally another pilot for second Knight Rider series that never saw the light of day. So technically, the movie is not part of the original Knight Rider from 1982. However, definately worth criticizing is the fact that the Blu-ray set only contains the shorter Syndicated Versions of all the two-part episodes which have been cut to a length of approx. 45 minutes (Blu-ray / NTSC) in order to fit in the slot.
But at least one has the chance to get the discs with the uncut episodes via Fabulous Films. One can either send the discs with the Syndicated Versions and get a free replacement or one can keep the old discs and get the ones with the uncut episodes for a small fee (payment via Paypal). Either way, the new discs then will be shipped to your address.
According to Fabulous Films, the first batch with the shorter episodes is completely sold out. But of course, there is still a slight chance that one gets a copy of those because the vendor still has some in stock.
Last but not least, a few words about the Syndicated Versions: Admittedly, they are still OK to watch but fans will realize that scenes are missing. The huge exception here is the pilot "Knight of the Phoenix". While the alterations of the second part of the pilot are being kept within bounds, they did a real number on the first part of the pilot. Including the opening, "Knight of the Phoenix Part 1" has a total length of approx. 3.5 minutes (!) and after that, the second part already begins. Basically, everything is missing. If one is not familiar with the show or the story of the pilot, it is incredibly hard to follow resp. I would say it is almost impossible. This is also the reason why the Syndicated Version of the pilot only consists of one single episode while the other two-part episodes still consist of two episodes each. Considering that there are only 3.5 minutes left of the first part of the pilot, this is not a surprise though.

Additional Scene Syndicated Version
03:37 / 48:41
Right at the beginning, the Syndicated Version contains additional footage. For starters, the exterior shot of the house is a little longer. Then several additional shots: A car is approaching the property and stops right in front of the house.
Please note: Neither the uncut German DVD by Universal (used for this comparison) nor the UK Blu-ray (uncut new edition) by Fabulous Films contain that scene. I really can't say how it ended up in the Syndicated Version.
Syndicated Version 67.2 sec resp. 1 min 7.2 sec longer

Missing scene with Christina and phony Bergstrom at the hotel.
Christina (on the phone): "I wanna speak to Michael Knight. Eh, please tell him it's important. Well, do you know where he is? I've got to talk to him."
All of a sudden, phony Bergstrom shows up which startles Christina a little.
She puts away the phone.
Christina: "You startled me. I thought you were going out."
Bergstrom: "I was. But then I realized how little time we have together. Sit."
They sit on the bed.
Bergstrom: "Christina, is something bothering you?"
Christina: "No, really, I'm fine."
Bergstrom: "If something is bothering you, you can talk to me. After all, we are family. And there is no closer bond than that. If you can't trust family, then who can you trust?"
09:42 / 54:25
The footage of Adrianne dolling up is missing.
12:12 / 57:21
In the Syndicated Version, the scene ends with Adrianne kissing Michael. In the Uncut Version, K.I.T.T. is keeping an eye on Michael and he hears everything that is going on.
Adrianne: "That's nice for a start."
K.I.T.T.: "Goodness gracious."
Karl enters the garage and he is prepared and highly motivated to strip K.I.T.T. down.
Karl: "Good evening, my friend. My name's Karl. I hear you're a tough nut to crack. Well, let me tell you, I'm a tough nutcracker."
Karl tries to open the door but he fails, of course.
Karl: "So that's the way it's gonna be. Alright, have it your own way. But let me warn you: I will strip your defenses one by one and in the end, I will transplant your central processing unit to Goliath."
16:04 / 01:01:53
Adriannes fight with Garthe is longer.
Garthe: "(You give yourself way too much credit, don't you? I would have gotten out of that prison without you, one way or another.) I had a promise to keep."
Adrianne: "What? Your revenge against Michael Knight? It always comes back to him, doesn't it?"
Garthe: "My revenge is my business, not yours."
Adrianne: "Your hate for him is eating away inside of you. It makes you weak. You disgust me."
Adrianne intends to leave but Garthe grabs her arm.
Garthe: "And your lust for him disgusts me."
Adrianne slaps Garthe who slaps her back. Then Garthe grabs her by the hair.
Garthe: "It's about time you understood that my life does not revolve around you. It was my will that forced you to break me out of prison. It was my brilliance tha resurrected Goliath and it was my planning that captured Michael Knight."
21:49 / 01:08:04
The Syndicated Version lacks the elevator scene with Christina and phony Bergstrom.
Bergstrom: "Surely, you can do better than that."
Christina: "Better than what?"
Bergstrom: "Your face is frozen. You look like a statue."
Christina: "Unfortunately, my major was in theater arts. I can't smile on cue."
Bergstrom: "No. But you can at least look pleasant. Try. For your uncle's sake."
The elevator door opens. Bergstrom grabs Christina by the arm and they together.
23:17 / 01:10:00
Michael's conversation with K.I.T.T. is longer.
(Michael: "K.I.T.T., monitor the transmissions from the mansion, pal. When they make their move with Klaus, we wanna make sure we're there for the going-away party.")
K.I.T.T.: "In this case, I believe it's called party-crashing."
Michael (to Christina): "You OK? You're awful quiet."
Christina: "I'm sorry. You know, I haven't even thanked you for rescuing me from that eh… that…"
K.I.T.T. finishes the sentence for Christina: "…masquerading misanthropic Klaus clone."
Michael: "You don't have to thank me. I just wanted to make sure you'd be available for dinner after this is all over."
Christina: "If it's over. I'm just so afraid I won't be seeing Uncle Klaus again."
Michael: "You will, Christina. If it's humanly possible, I promise you, you will."

Devon complains about the damage at FLAG headquarters.
Devon: "He shot it. It's gone forever. My Ming Statue. My priceless Ming Statue. Why? For what purpose?"
April: "Well, I think Garthe hated anything beautiful. Anything he couldn't possess. Well, I don't know, Devon. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise. Now we can redecorate?"
But Devon hates the idea: "Redecorate? What is wrong with the way it was?"
April remains silent.
Michael enters the room and he has a lot of suggestions how to redecorate the place. Devon still hates it.
Michael: "Alright, Devon. Another one of your wild toga parties?"
Devon: "That is not very funny, Michael."
Michael: "Oh, well, I always thought the decor in here was a little… well, dated."
Devon: "Dated? What do you mean dated?"
Michael: "Well, you know, I think the Foundation can use a new image, you know. Maybe brighten up the walls here and eh… yeah, we could put a little skylight in here."
Devon has had enough: "Absolutely not! No skylight, no changed images. And if you know what is good for you…"
Michael knows he better leave now. While running out, he yells: "Just a suggestion!"
When Devon wants to shut the door, Michael has another one of his brilliant ideas.
Michael: "I know. How about a hot tub in the corner?"
Devon shuts the door, April laughs. Obviously, Devon is still angry so April simply turns away in silence. Devon keeps walking and stombles. Of course, April has seen Devon little stunt but she remains silent. When Devon sees what is left of his valuable Ming Statue on the desk, he sighs.
