Comparison between the UK DVD released by Kiseki Films and the German DVD released by OVA 18.

Background:

The Urotsukidoji series is probably one of the classics of the so-called Hentai-Anime genre, i.e. animes with pornographic scenes. Several hardcore sex scenes were included in the Urotsukidoji movies, however, mostly they are important for the plot or fittingly included in the story; only in the last 2 parts they seem to be rather self purpose than stylistic device. These sex scenes are surrounded by a sophisticated and thrilling - one could even say epic - story, that will stir anime-fans' blood. Additionally, Urotsukidoji was created by Toshio Maeda, one of the pioneers of the "animated tentacle sex".

Also, Urotsukidoji was more violent than anything that you could see in the anime genre back then. There's a lot of blood, exploding bodies, guts flying around, as well as physical and psychological violence (mostly after sexual intercourse). All parts of the series (even though some of them are up to 25 years old) are drawn very well and underline the extreme depiction of action, sex, and violence.

Versions:

Part 4 of the Urotsukidoji-series consists of another 3 OVAs. The German DVD contains the 3 OVAs split up into 2 parts which is the way you can select them in the DVD menue. The German DVD represents the uncut version of the movie. However, it was based on the Japanese version which means that all the explicit sex scenes of the movie were blurred. Again, there does not exist a completely uncensored version of the film worldwide.

The US DVD includes the three OVAs strung together; at the end of every OVA you see the end credits. Almost all the shortenings of the US version cut out scenes with sexual content where you could get the feeling that the characters involved are underage. However, it also misses out on 3 minutes of plot-evolving scenes. Additionally, there are some more differences when it comes to title cards, prologues, and end credits.

The UK DVD and VHS only includes the last part of the movie. A comparison of both mediums lead to the conclusion that the two versions are identical. In the UK, OVA 10 and 11 are part of the "Video Nasties" and did not receive a rating by the BBFC. We don't know whether or not they have ever been released in any way. The eason for the rejection of the movie was the pornographic content as well as sexual violence against characters where one might think that they are underage. Depictions like this are not a part of the last part of the series, however, the UK distributors had to cut out three scenes in order to get a BBFC 18 rating.

Conclusion and Buy Recommendation:

For the fourth part of the Urotsukidoji there's only one uncut version - the original OVA version (which is included on the German DVD). While the US DVD has the better image quality, it still misses out on 3 minutes of the plot and should only be considered if you are neither able to speak Japanese nor German.
Any potential buyer should ignore the UK VHS and DVD since a)it only includes the third OVA and b) even this part had to be censored.

Yoen is shown a little longer when the UK version cuts to the next scene. Then we see Münchhausen's tentacle inside of her. He grabs her breats and then has sex with Yoen. There are several shots of their sexual intercourse. Yoen's body starts to color red.

Shortly after that, the UK version again cuts to the next scene while the original version shows Münchhausen grabbing Yoen's breasts.

The monster is shown a little longer. After that we see several naked women who are held by a transparent mass. The monster's tentacle embraces one of the women's breasts and then penetrate her. Subsequently we see a few more women being raped by the monster. Then you see the monster holding 2 women close to it, followed by a shot of a second creature. Then the monster licks one of the women's breasts, followed by another shot of several women. At the end of the scene, the women are pulled into the transparent mass and dissolve inside of it.
