Comparison:

  • Theatrical Version
  • Director's Cut
Release: May 26, 2016 - Author: Muck47 - Translator: Tony Montana - external link: IMDB
Compared are the Theatrical Version and the Director's Cut (beide vertreten auf der US-DVD von Trimark)

- 3 additional scenes
- Difference: 225.4 sec (= 3:45 min)

Shot in 1998, Another Day in Paradise by Larry Clark (Kids, Ken Park) has two amazing actors as lead: James Woods and Melanie Griffith. The movie itself is a road movie about two teenagers who feel attracted to an older fient couple. Together, they go out stealing and everything takes it course. Roger Ebert describes it very well: Basically, the movie does not tell anything ever seen before but the result is really good.
Besides the Theatrical Version, a Director's Cut with approx. 4 additional minutes has been released in both the US and the UK.

The R-Rating is justified due to a lot of foul language, violence, drug abuse and sex. But knowing Clark's other films, the expectations of the latter are rater high and this is where the Director's Cut comes in: Most of the additional 4 minutes results from a single scene showing a rather rough BJ - just like the girls likes it. Quite significant for her character's downward tendency which makes it a shame that this scene was probably cut in order to get the R-Rating. In addition to that, there are 2 more additional scenes regarding her partner's manhood but that does not really look like censorship.

Bobbie is touching himmself in the dark (and smells his fingers afterwards plus he fiddles around with his shirt) before he lights the cigarette.

16.9 sec

33:46 / 34:03-37:22

After the exterior shot of the vehicle (which has been used as screenshot comparison at the end), the Director's Cut shows Rosie painting on the wall. Bobbie then gets upset about the absence of television or electricity. Rosie takes advantage of the situation and seduces him. Of course, he takes it like a man and she gives him a nice BJ. Rosie then whispers she wants him to grab er by the hair and shove his penis down her throat. Further dirty fantasies follow. Bobbie seems confused and checks with her. He also says he would never hurt her. Rosie gets a little upset about him acting like a puss and pulls him by the hair - which makes him more aggressive. And as demanded before, he gives it to her well.

198.7 sec (= 3:19 min)

37:57 / 41:33-41:43

A longer dialog between Bobbie and Rosie. The issue is his manhood again. She explains she does not want a puss and he mentions his huge penis.

9.8 sec

Last but not least, a little screenshot comparison: The coloring is partially different. It is rarely obvious though resp. in this instance, it is probably a result of the Director's Cut alteration.
