Comparison between the UK DVD by Cine Asia and the German Blu-ray by New KSM.
In order to achieve a UK rating, this movie about the life of Confuzius had to be shortened by two scenes that were considered animal cruelty. These scenes of a horse falling and a cock fight can be considered expendable, however. Showbox decided to partly exchange the removed material with alternative footage. In order to help with the orientation in the movie, the last frame that both versions show in synchronicity will be included as well. UK/GER: 0:00:00
The German BD starts with the logo of Mei Ah Entertainment. 9 sec UK: 0:47:25 GER: 0:49:33 A cock fight the minister and his majesty can be seen before a messenger arrives with news from Houyi (rebel general Hou Fan has escaped from the city). 13 sec
UK: 0:47:51 GER: 0:50:13 After the message has been read out, his majesty is happy and congratulates Kong Qiu, afterwards he looks back at the cock fight. The original version shows the cocks again, the UK version reuses a side shot of Chow Yun-Fat.
UK: 0:52:35 GER: 0:55:09 During the rebel army's retreat at Gongshan Niu, a war chariot is falling over. The UK DVD uses the fleeing general's shields as alternative footage.
