Compared are the TV Version and the Extended Version
9 differences, incl. 7x alternate footage Length difference: 43.6 sec New season, old problem: Any Blu-ray release worldwide only contains the TV Version of every single episode while, for instance, the US and UK DVDs contain the Extended Versions. Episode 4x04 (The One with the Ballroom Dancing) is more than one minute longer. Mainly because there is a longer additional scene in the middle of the episode, prior to one of the commercial breaks in the TV Version. Quite nice actually because Chandler's issue regardinng his gym subscription is being dissolved here in a better way plus one gets to watch Ross have the hots for a very attractive employee. Last but not least, there are a few minor insignificant alterations. 00:21-00:22
Only in the Extended Version, Rachel responds to Monica's question whether Rachel had ever taken out the trash with a simple "Yeah!". Monica gets more specific: "Since you've lived here?" In the TV Version, the subsequent shot of Rachel starts insignificantly earlier (no screenshots). Extended Version 4.6 sec longer
02:46-02:47 Additional black screen in the TV Version due to a commercial break. + 1.6 sec Alternate 04:54-04:57 The TV Version contains an additional shot of Mr. Trreger walking away. In the Extended Version, the previous shot is a little longer instead. When Joey rolls up his sleeves, the TV Version cuts back to said shot. TV Version 1 sec longer
Alternate 07:24-07:26 & 09:00-09:03 The exterior shot of the gym remains steady on Blu-ray while the Extended Version zooms in a little. Same thing with the shot of Phoebe's massage parlor approx. 1.5 minutes afterwards. no difference
Alternate 11:02-11:05 The shot of Joey and Mr. Treeger is insignificantly longer in the TV Version. In addition to that, the TV Version does neither fade to black nor fade in with the shot of the street subsequently afterwards (no screenshots). The Extended Version contains an additional scene at the gym instead. Chandler keeps repeating: "I want to quit the gym!" Dave: "Now, can you honestly tell me that your 100% satisfied with your body?" Chandler: "Yes! Yes! Most of the time. I mean, sure, I have my bad days, but then I remember what a cute smile I have." Dave: "Well, we were voted Best-equipped Gym in New York two years running. Do you really want to give that up?" Chandler: "Yes, I hate it here! Everything that you have in here is very heavy!" The phone rings, Dan answers: "Yeah. Really? Okay." Now to Chandler: "You don't want to make your friend work out alone, do you?" Chandler: "What friend?" Dave: "Your friend Ross just joined." Dave opens the blinds and one gets to Ross with Maria. Extended Version 42 sec longer
Alternate 16:02-16:05 Alternate transitional exterior shot. no difference
Alternate 16:24-16:31 When Karen has an interview at the bank, the Extended Version contains two shots closer to the action for some reason. no difference
Alternate Frame Rate 16:58-17:08 When Phoebe starts her list regarding Chandler and the camera zooms in on the clock, the frame is a little lower on Blu-ray. As compensation, the Extended Version shows the clock a little longer. no difference Alternate 19:54-19:58 Alternate skyline shot, then a tracking shot up the building. no difference
Alternate Frame Rate / Alternate 20:22-20:33 When Mr. Treeger hugs Joey, he does it in slow motion on Blu-ray. In the Extended Version the shots are a little longer/start a little earlier instead and there are further, yet rather subtle alterations every now and then as well. no difference
Alternate 21:39-21:44 Another alternate shot of the skyline (this time by day). Also, the Extended Version contains a sht of the massage parlor subsequently afterwards. no difference
