Don "The Dragon" Wilson's filmography includes a number of flops and although the generic title Black Belt does not necessarily suggest it, it is a more than solid representative of its genre. This has to do with both the toughness and the somewhat more multi-layered story, which, in addition to a classic mafia threat plot, also features a serial killer component in which the bulky henchman Matthias Hues speaks little but is allowed to act menacing and brutal.

In the US, Black Belt was significantly cut for the R rating. The unrated version made it onto the German Blu-ray from Shamrock Media on November 17, 2023. Certainly worth a look for fans of Wilson and a useful mix of shootouts and martial arts.

The R-rated DVD (from New Concorde) was compared with the unrated version / German FSK 16 Blu-ray (from Shamrock Media).
