Of course one doesn't have to say much about the myth that Harry Potter has become. The seventh and allegedly last screen adaptation is just around the corner and for the first time the enormous story is going to be divided into two seperate movies. It has yet to be seen which way the producers will try to continue the highly profitable marketing of Harry Potter afterwards.

The first two movies have been re-released again on DVD and Blu-Ray using the well-known description "Ultimate Edition". This was conceived as a rip-off by quite a few. This isn't incomprehensible when thinking of all the other releases before (like the boxes with the first three, four or five movies). For all those that do not own any previous release and also do not want to wait for a certainly coming complete edition of all movies: These new versions, especially the here discussed second part, are recommendable nonetheless.

Both movies feature, besides a new documentary in feature-length and some nice gimmicks such as a nice photo book, the main movie in both the TV and the EV. The EV comes on it's own discs and is for the second part almost 13 Minutes longer.
As one could guess these extensions are mainly deleted scenes which could already be found in the bonus material of earlier releases and have been put back in their places. Additionally, one did cut the movie at least around these scenes a bit different (e.g. for continuity reasons) - all in all this version is a nice bonus for a fan.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was already broadcasted in a longer cut by the Disney Channel. That was probably this EV which has now been released on DVD and Blu-Ray..

Time designations have been formatted as following:

In the Extended Version the cake is longer hovering through the air before it stops above Mrs. Mason's head. Vernon and Petunia desperately try to go on with the conversation but cannot hide their fear of what is about to happen.

Petunia: "Mr. Mason..." - she continues after a glance to the cake - "...Vernon tells me that you're a wonderful golfer."
Mr. Mason, while the cake is coming closer: "I play. Occasionally."
Petunia still tries to distract them: "Mrs. Mason...Where do you get your beautiful suits?"
Mrs. Mason: "Oh. All of my suits are tailor-made."
Vernon: "Eh, Dudley...Wasn't there something you wanted to say?"
He only gazes towards the cake and says: "Pudding."
Vernon (out of the off, while the cake is still hovering over Mrs. Mason's head): "Pudding? What Pudding?"

Some shots seen in the Theatrical Version were replaced or rearranged.

Here we see at first Petunia, then the clueless Vernon. After a shot of Dudley and the slowly approaching Harry Dobby snaps his finger's.

In the EV Draco Malfoy and his father appear in the shop Harry just accidentally entered. Because of that the scene is developing completely different and much longer. The TV does not catch up until Harry is on the street again.

TV:

Harry seen from the side, he can free his hand from the claw, is looking angry and then leaves the store without further disturbance.
The first shot outside starts earlier than in the EV.

EV:

Draco is looking through the shop window. There are several cuts to Harry when he enters. Harry is still straggling with the claw and can hide in a trunk just in time. Draco enters and wants to take an object causing his father Lucius to rebuke him; "Don't touch anything, Draco."
Draco answers "Yes, Father" and follows him.
The shop keeper Borgin greets them: "Mr. Malfoy, what a pleasure to see you again. And young Master Malfoy, too. Delighted. I must show you, just in today, and very reasonably priced..."
Lucius interrupts him; "I'm not buying today, Borgin. I'm selling."
Borgin: "Selling?"
Lucius: "Draco!"
Draco is putting a box on the counter and Lucius explains; "You're aware, no doubt, that the Ministry of Magic is conducting more raids on private houses. There's even rumors of a new Muggle Protection Act."
Borgin: "Pure wizard blood is counting for less everywhere, I'm afraid."
Lucius: "Not with me. Anyway, I brought a few items from home that might prove...embarrassing were the Ministry to call. Poisons and the like."
The shopkeeper now finds something inside the box: "Look at this..."
Lucius comments: "That...particular item is not for sale."
Borgin: "I understand. It has unique qualities... One wouldn't want to see it falling into the wrong hands.."

Draco now stands in front of the trunk Harry is hiding in while Lucius is taking something and says: "You can keep the box".
Lucius tells Draco again not to touch anything and states that they should leave now. Borgin bids them farewell: "t's a pleasure to do business with you, Mr. Malfoy. Always a pleasure..."

He is disappearing in a corner of the shop so Harry can come out of his hideout. He goes to the door in a similar shot as in the TV but is being interrupted by the shopkeeper.
Borgin: "Looking for something?"
Harry: "No, I... I'm just in the wrong place. Sorry."
Borgin lets him go, Harry says "Thank you" und exits.

He goes away and Snape follows him with a disapproving facial expression.
Harry and Ron pass Argus. Harry notices a letter on the ground and picks it up. It's addressed to Argus and is about the basics of magic.

A Muggle, like all our family's been until me. No one knew all the stuff I could do was magic till we got our Hogwarts letter. Everyone just thought I was mental."
Ron smirks: "Imagine that..."

Lockhart lets the students take a test that only contains questions about his personal life. Only Hermione is praised for her correct answers.

Lockhart: "I see you've all bought a complete set of my books. Well done. Now, I thought we'd start today with a little quiz. Nothing to worry about. Just to check how well you've read them."
The boys still seem sceptical, only Hermione is taking the test with an admiring expression.
Ron and Harry look down on the ground, the former comments: "Look at these questions. They're all about him."
Harry is reading out loud: "'What is Gilderoy Lockhart's favorite color?'"
Ron: "'What is Gilderoy Lockhart's greatest achievement to date?'"
Lockhart starts the test; "You have 30 minutes. Start...now."

We then see him checking the tests: "Ts. Hardly any of you remembered that my favorite color is lilac. But Miss Hermione Granger knew that my secret ambition is to rid the world of evil and market my own range of hair-care potions. Good girl."

The students at the dining table can be seen longer, Harry stops in front of it and listens to their conversation. The boys want to convince a girl that Harry is Slytherin's successor and plans something evil.
Afterwards Harry meets Hagrid on the stairs.

Boy: "So anyway, I told Justin to hide up in our dormitory. I mean to say, if Potter's marked him down as his next victim it's best he keeps a low profile for a while."
Girl: "But why would he want to attack Justin?"
Boy: "Well, Justin let it slip to Potter that he was Muggle-born."
Girl: "And you definitely think Potter's the Heir of Slytherin?"
Boy: "Hannah, he's a Parselmouth. Everyone knows that's the mark of a Dark wizard. Have you ever heard of a decent one who could talk to snakes? They called Slytherin himself Serpent-tongue."
Girl: "Harry always seems so nice, though. And, after all, he is the one who made 'You-Know-Who' disappear."
Boy: "That's probably why 'You-Know-Who' wanted to kill him in the first place. Didn't want another Dark Lord competing with him."
Harry goes away.

On the stairs suddenly Hagrid enters from the side holding an animal cadaver and asking: "Hello, Harry. You all right?"
Harry: "Hagrid! What are you doing here?"
Hagrid explains: "Second one killed this term. Now, I reckon it's either a fox or a Blood-Sucking Bugbear. So I've just been up at Dumbledore's getting permission to put a little charm around the old hen coop. You sure you're all right? You're awful hot and bothered."
Harry: "It's nothing. Look, I better get going. I've got a lot of studying to..."
He goes and Hagrid looks puzzled for a moment.

In the EV however we can also watch a conversation between Harry, Ron and Hermione.

Fred sneers from behind: "Hey, look, everyone. It's the Heir of Slytherin."
George joins in: "Be careful. He's a seriously evil wizard... Come on."
They go and Ron coms to his brother's defence: "Come on, Harry. Fred and George were just having a laugh."
Harry: "They're the only ones."
Ron: "So half the school thinks you nip off to the Chamber of Secrets every night. Who cares?"
Harry: "Maybe they're right."
He angrily goes away, the two follow him and Hermione yells after him.
Harry: "I didn't know I can speak Parseltongue. What else don't I know about myself? Look...maybe you can do something...even something horrible, and not know you did it."
Hermione: "You don't believe that, Harry. I know you don't. And if it makes you feel any better, Malfoy's staying for the holidays too."
Ron: "Why would that make anyone feel any better?"
Hermione: "Because in a few days the Polyjuice Potion will be ready. In a few days, we may truly know who is the Heir of Slytherin."
Harry sighs.

They present them proudly. Ron then asks: "What are these?"
Hermione: "Slytherin robes. I had to sneak them from the laundry."
She stirs the disgusting drink and Harry asks: "Are we going to drink that?"
Hermione affirms and adds: "We'll have exactly one hour before we change back into ourselves."

(Note: In the TV she makes that remark in the following scene where her mouth can't be seen. In the EV the double sentence was deleted from the soundtrack.)

Hermione: "There's a name in this diary. Tom Marvolo Riddle."
Ron nimmt das Buch; "Tom Marvolo Riddle? Hang on. I know that name. Why do l know that name? Of course. That night I had detention. My job was to polish the silver in the trophy room. I remember because I kept burping up slugs over Tom Riddle's trophy."
Harry: "What was the trophy for?"
Ron: "He won an award. 50 years ago. Special services to the school or something."
Hermione: "50 years ago. Are you sure...?"
Ron: "Yeah. Why?"
Hermione: "Don't you remember what Malfoy told you? The last time the Chamber was opened was..."
Harry: "...Fifty years ago. But that means..."
Hermione: "Tom Riddle was here at Hogwarts when it happened. What if he wrote about what he saw? It's possible he knew where the Chamber was...how to open it, even what sort of creature lives in it. If so, whoever's behind these attacks wouldn't want this diary lying around...would they?"
Harry: "That's a brilliant theory, Hermione, but there's just one flaw. There's nothing written in this diary."
He flips through it.

A shot from above fallows, Harry is now alone with the book.

In the TV Harry merely holds the book a bit longer.

Extended 75 sec länger

Die lights go off again and Harry says: "Come on. We don't want to lose the trail!" They move on.
