For some reason, three different versions of Area 51 were released (German Version, Euro Version and US Version). While the US Version is completely uncensored, the Euro Version lacks some things. Not to mention the German Version which doesn't contain almost none violence any more. But the censorings can be reversed with the official US pöatch in either of the versions.


In comparison to the uncensored US Version, the UK Version lacks 2 ingame sequences and a scripted sequence. Moreover a chopped off head and hand have been removed.

Level: The Hot Zone
The cutscene in the level "The Hot Zone", in which a teammate's head gets chopped off, fades out with a black screen so that only the corresponding noise is audible. (on the left: Uncensored US Version, on the right: Censored Euro Version)

Level: The Search
In the level "The Search", the character is supposed to enter a room to get a card.

US Version
In the US Version, a chopped off arm is required to activate the scanner.

Euro Version
In the Euro Version, the door can be opened regularly by operating the scanner with the own hand, the chopped arm is completely missing here.

Level: Hatching Parasites
In the level "Hatching Parasites", the door at the beginning needs to be opened via retinal scanner.

US Version
In the US Version, the scientist's chopped off head is required to hold the head in the front of the scanner.

Euro Version
In the Euro Version, the head's been replaced by an access card. Awkwardly the retinal scanner reads the access card in the Euro Version which doesn't make any sense at all.

Level: One of Them
The cutscene in the level "One of Them", in which the scientists get executed, fades out to a black screen. Only the shots are audible. (on the left: Uncensored US Version, on the right: Censored Euro Version)

Level: The Greys
In the level "The Greys", Alien perform an autopsy on a man who's still alive.

US Version
In the US Version, a man with a naked chest is lying on the operating table. He moans and screams. He's surrounded by aliens. Suddenly, a blue laser hits the man. The alien use it to open the abdominal wall and pocking around in the inside of his body. Furthermore, there are monitors in the room that show close-ups of the torn open stomach and the "patient's" face twisted with pain.

Euro Version
In the Euro Version, a man with a naked chest is lying on the operating table. He moans and screams. He's surrounded by aliens but they're just standing there, doing nothing.
