Comparison:

Uncensored Version
Rating: PEGI 18+

Release: Aug 15, 2013 - Author: FreshDudel - Translator: Mr Miau
Left 4 Dead 2 is certainly one of the of the games with the most butchering and blood splattering around available, making games like Soldier of Fortune: Payback look like a child's birthday party. It was therefore known well before the release date that there would be a censored version in Germany, as is the case quite often. However, the game also had problems in Australia, where the rating agency did not agree to give it the MA 15+ label, which was for a long time the highest rating available Down Under. Valve eventually only created one censored version, the German and the Australian Version are censored identically.

Dissolving corpses and missing splatter effects certainly lower the fun players will have with this version, it is therefore strongly advised to get the uncensored version for a thrilling zombie hunt.

Comparison between the Censored Version (taken from the German USK Keine Jugendfreigabe release) and the Uncensored European Version (PEGI 18+)

The Intro

Ellis shoots a huge hole in a zombie's head.

The zombie with the hole in the head was removed, the other one only dies gory in the Uncensored Version. His wound, reaching from his shoulder to his belly, was removed as well.
Uncensored Version:Censored Version:

Only the Uncensored Version shows Rochelle breaking a zombie's skull; the same sound can be heard in the next shot in the Censored Version.

Coach hits the undead in the face again. In the Censored Version, there is no blood and a few frames are missing as well.
Uncensored Version:Censored Version:

Some blood is missing again.
Uncensored Version:Censored Version:

The zombies were completely removed during this explosion.
Uncensored Version:Censored Version:

A smoker grabs Ellis with his tongue, resulting in the most obvious cut. In the Uncensored Version, Coach grabs a chainsaw, disassembles a zombie with it and then cuts off the smoker's tongue. The Censored Version only shows him cutting the smoker's tongue briefly.

Uncensored Version:Censored Version:

The severed tongue of the smoker is missing.
Uncensored Version:Censored Version:

And again some blood and gore are missing.
Uncensored Version:Censored Version:

Dissolving Corpses
Killed zombies immediately dissolve in the Censored Version, sometimes even before they have reached the ground.

Example 2

Splatter Effects
Heads, arms, legs, etc., everything can be severed and mutilated in the Uncensored Version. Also Wounds from guns and melee weapons show the zombies' anatomy. (All pictures are taken from the Uncensored Version)

Severed heads...

...arms and legs...

...or other injuries caused by a huge arsenal of available weapons...

...are all missing in the Censored Version. The gory lower half of an exploded boomer is missing as well, but at least the exploding part is still intact.

Blood Textures
The Censored Version features blood spraying around as well, but it does not cover the area anymore.
(Pictures taken from the Uncensored Version

Ragdoll Effects
Due to the dissolving effect, corpses do not show any ragdoll effects anymore.
(Pictures taken from the Uncensored Version

Missing Animation
-Herausfallender Darm
If the belly of a zombie is injured in some way, their intestines sometimes fall out. (Unfortunately, on the pictures it looks as if the intestines were coming out of their back.)
(Pictures taken from the Uncensored Version

Burning Zombies
In the Censored Version, the zombies just walk through fire caused by molotov cocktails or incendiary ammunition and die without running around while burning.
(Pictures taken from the Uncensored Version

Decorative Blood
Decorative blood is black in the Censored Version.

Uncensored Version:Censored Version:

Wounds
Wounds on the protagonist or his allies cannot be seen in the Censored Version, but at least it still shows the blood splattering when they are hit.
