Horror movies are always a safe bet when it comes to re-financing a film project. The German film crew responsible for this backwood slasher called Break must have had the same idea when they produced it for approx. 250.000 Euros. The story revolves around 4 female friends that decide to go camping in the woods and soon get hunted and tortured by two cannibalistic sadists. The gore level is similar to the standards that were built in the last couple of years and so we get to see some moments with bloody effects. The climax of the action is reached in the extensive rape scene.
This very scene is the reason why the film has problems in the UK. The BBFC dismissed the uncut version and demanded cuts in the rape scene before they granted their "18" classification. In their database, they state: After 5 cuts, the board seemed to be satisfied and gave the film the desired rating. There's still plenty of violent stuff in the movie so everyone has to decide for themselves whether this is too much of censorship. If you want to buy the completely uncut version of the film, you'd have to grab the Austrian DVD or Blu-ray. Comparison between the censored British BBFC 18 DVD (by Trinity X) and the uncut Austrian DVD (by NSM Records). 5 cuts = 63.2 sec. or 1 minute 4 seconds, respectively. 0.50.28: The first explicit part of the rape scene is missing.
