Compared are the cut episodes on the US DVD by Lions Gate / FOX and the uncut episodes on the German DVD by Warner Home Video.
3 cuts = 2 minutes and 54 seconds.
2 alternate scenes = 4 seconds.
One certainly needs to make no words about the hilarious TV show "ALF". Even those who have not seen it have at least heard of it even though it has been quite some time since something new from the ALF universe was released. Anyway, the show consists of 4 seasons and was aired in the late 80s and early 90s. Furthermore, there are two animated series ("ALF: The Animated Series" & ALF Tales) and a motion picture from the mid 90s.
As for the US Versions, a few minutes of each episode were cut for syndication in order to show more commercials. Unfortunately, these syndication versions were also released on DVD. Understandably, the fans were disappointed that the DVDs do not contain the uncut episodes. Whether or not the uncut episodes will be released one day (perhaps on Blu-ray?) is the million dollar question.
The intro was shortened. We do not see Alf's point of view when opening a door and walking to into the room.
Another minor part from the intro was cut out when Alf wants to get his hands on the cake in the fridge, but Katherine hinders him.
Alf dials a phone number. When Katherine and Willie enter the bedroom, he immediately hangs up again.
Alf: Don't you believe in knocking?
Katherine: This is our room!
Alf: I know that!
Willie: What, may I ask, are you doing in here?
Alf: I have to make a private call! Now, you two just go back in there and do whatever you were doing!
Willie: We were brushing our teeth!
Alf: No need to cover! I think it's great that you kids still keep the flames burning!
Willie walks out through the door and says: Thanks for the feedback! Now, will you leave?
He opens the door and his gesture obviously asks Alf to leave.
Alf: Yeah! After my call!
Willie: Who are you calling at this time of the night?
Alf: Do I pry into your personal life? Look, it's kind of a surprise!
Katherine: What did we say about surprises?
Alf: I know, but it's a good surprise! Just trust me! Please?
Willie: Two Minutes!
Alf: Thanks! Oh, and close the door behind you!
Willie and Katherine go back out of the bedroom and close the door as Alf had asked.
Lynn: Alf, we don't have any financial troubles!
Alf: We do now!
Bei beiden Fassungen ist der Dialog gleich, jedoch ist die Einstellung unterschiedlich.
No difference in time.
Brian comes in carrying a crate he found in the garage.
Brian: Here's some more of your stuff, Alf!
Lynn: Oh, look, a Slinky!
Alf: Careful! Don't get a kink in that! I need to get 500 bucks for it!
Lynn: You won't!
Alf: Yeah? Well, what about this? A genuine Melmacian survival knife!
Brian: There's no blade!
Alf: Well, life on Melmac wasn't that tough!
Lynn: Alf, you have some really nice thing here, but I really don't think they're worth all that much!
Alf: All right! I was hoping I wouldn't have to part with this, but here it is! My collection of bouillabaseball cards!
Brian: What's bouillabaseball?
Alf: It's like regular baseball, only you throw fish parts!
Brian: Which parts?
Alf: What difference does it make? How much will you give me for this?
Alf: Wait! Don't answer yet! What it I threw in an attractive 12 piece set of cookware? Now what would you pay?
Lynn: Three Dollars!
Lynn: Alf, I'm not buying that!
Alf: We had a deal!
Lynn: I didn't mean I'd buy it! I just thought you wanted to know what it was worth!
Alf: You're right! I did! Sorry! Do you really need to go to college?
Willie: (I think this could explain why the sales have been slow!)
Dorothy: Maybe you don't understand the concept of a garage sale!
The next sentence is identical in both versions. However, the shot is different:
Katherine: Mom, could you check the rest of the prices while Willie and I go in the house and investigate!
Brian: I can help! I have almost 6 Dollars saved up!
Lynn: And I've got a little money!
Willie: No one in this family is giving money to Alf to cover his gambling losses!
Lynn: Dad, he was trying to help!
Willie: Oh, you're right, you're right!
