Wolf of Wall Street Massively Censored in Dubai
Initially, The Wolf of Wall Street had a runtime of 4 hours and many people who saw this version found it to be very good. Still, such a duration is hard to manage for a theatrical release which led to the film being shortened to 3 hours. We already reported on how that was reached.
For those who still think that's too long, a trip to Dubai might be the solution because the film is another whopping 45 minutes shorter there. The BBC reports that the removed material consists mostly of sex and drug scenes, accompanied by muted curse words. If you've seen the film and wonder why "only 45 minutes" are missing when much more of the film contains such scenes, it might be possible that there's still something left of that in this version.
The responsible agency in the United Arab Emirates says that it's not their fault and that it was the distributor's decision to cut the scenes out. Still, they don't reveal whether they would have given their blessing to the uncensored version.
