The Pardon Will be Cut in Cinemas

Instead of PG-13 it got a... PG-13

Three reasons to write a movie off before it even came out:

  1. It was made in 2007 but comes out in late 2012.
  2. Two weeks before the theatrical release, there's still no poster in the IMDb
  3. It was cut but the general rating didn't change.

Wait, what?

Yep. Sometimes, a film gets its desired and expected rating but the studio still isn't satisfied. Not long ago, such a case happened in the UK where the vampire movie The Thompsons was given a BBFC 18 which also mentioned "sexualised violence". The label didn't want that "stigma" and censored the movie.

But what's the deal with The Pardon? It got a PG-13 rating and was probably uncensored this way. The MPAA's reasoning:

Rated PG-13 for thematic material including disturbing violent imagery, nudity and sexual situations, and for brief drug use.

But that obviously didn't satisfy the studio. They cut the movie and now it has a PG-13 again. This time, the reasoning reads:

Rated PG-13 For thematic material including disturbing violent images, sexual situations and some drug content.

The nudity (which isn't a big deal in PG-13 movies anyway) was thus cut out and the drug consumption was apparently reduced.

The Pardon starts in US cinemas on December 7th, 2012.
