Unrated Version of Colombiana in the USA
With Taken aka 96 Hours, Luc Besson, not only director but also screenplay writer, came up with a quite a successful movie that was as surpring as convincing. A sequel is already in preparation.
In the meantime, another movie he wrote the screenplay for was shown in movie theaters. The action thriller Colombiana, staged by Olivier Megaton (Transporter 3), was shown with a PG-13 in theaters and rumors that this version was censored came up pretty fast. With the Blu-ray announcement for 12/20/2011, Sony proved those rumors right. The upcoming Blu-ray contains the Unrated Version which is 3 min. longer.
One can find parallels to the Taken / 96 Hours again because the only reason for its huge success at the box office is that the movie was censored to get the more profitable PG-13 rating. The Uncensored Version was released on Blu-ray and DVD afterwards.
Since Taken was a co-production between the US and France, European countries like Germany got the Uncensored Version immediately. There is every indication that the situation will be similar with Colombiana.
