Comparison between the regular version released by KNM / Movie Power and the theatrical version (first run).
This low budged US horror movie keeps aloof from stale zombie stories, however, the "homemade" style of the movie ruin the overall impression. Additionally, you're never really sure if you're watching a horror-comedy, a drama with a sociocritical undertone or just a bloody splatter movie - the production is simply too half-assed. Still, the main actors (Angela, Josh, the commander) are pretty good and resemble the characters quite well.
In 2006 the movie had its first run within the scope of an US film festival (back then it was called "The Last Rites Of The Dead"). Here, the audience was able to see a 118 minutes lasting version of the movie which was also available for this report. A bit later, director Marc Fratto re-cut the movie (with a runtime of 108 minutes) which could be seen during the NYC Horror Film Festival (also in 2006). In 2008, the movie was released on DVD. For the DVD Release the US-Publisher re-cut the movie again and this time it was missing out on 17 additional minutes of footage (runtime: 91 minutes). This version was also released in most of the European countries; rumors say that several countries (e.g. UK, France, Poland, ...) actually got the second US theatrical version with a runtime of 108 minutes. However, we can not confirm that bou ourselves.
This report shows the differences between the very first theatrical cut and the shortest version (US DVD Version / 91 minutes). Most of the cuts during the first half of the movie are not really noticeable and were probably done in order to increase the movie's speed (sometimes, there are only a few missing frames). However, the second half of the movie misses out on a few passages which are not even that unimportant for the movie (at one point actually 8 minutes of connected footage!). Overall, the "regular" version is 27 minutes shorter than the extended first theatrical cut. It's important to mention that the European DVDs are not censored - all the cuts were made by the director/studio.
To this day, the extended cut has never been released officially, the only source is a press demonstration DVD. This is the reason for the watermarks which occur every now and then.
Due to the fact that there are lots of very short cuts, it is possible that this report might lacks one or two cuts with a runtime of a few frames. Therefore, we can't guarantee that this report is 100% complete. The time designations refer to the German DVD.
