Compared are the cut episodes on the US DVD by Lions Gate / FOX and the uncut episodes on the German DVD by Warner Home Video.
7 cuts = 1 minute and 19.5 seconds.
4 alternative scenes = 46 seconds.
One certainly needs to make no words about the hilarious TV show "ALF". Even those who have not seen it have at least heard of it even though it has been quite some time since something new from the ALF universe was released. Anyway, the show consists of 4 seasons and was aired in the late 80s and early 90s. Furthermore, there are two animated series ("ALF: The Animated Series" & ALF Tales) and a motion picture from the mid 90s.
As for the US Versions, a few minutes of each episode were cut for syndication in order to show more commercials. Unfortunately, these syndication versions were also released on DVD. Understandably, the fans were disappointed that the DVDs do not contain the uncut episodes. Whether or not the uncut episodes will be released one day (perhaps on Blu-ray?) is the million dollar question.
The intro was shortened. We do not see Alf's point of view when opening a door and walking to into the room.
Another minor part from the intro was cut out when Alf wants to get his hands on the cake in the fridge, but Katherine hinders him.
Alf: Explain how television ratings work, will you, Willie?
Willie: Well, ratings are designed primary for advertisers in order to assist them in their own in-house research! They require certain demographic...
Alf: Never mind!
Willie: All right, Alf! You're number five!
Katherine: Just don't break that thing!
Alf: Kate! Katie! Kate-o-nine-tails! Have I ever broken anything?
Katherine looks askant at Alf.
Alf: This week?
Katherine crosses her arms.
She silently looks at Alf.
Alf: Since lunch?
Trevor: Case in point: Here's Lucy Again! The one where she moves back in with her mother!
Willie: Who could play Lucy's mother?
Trevor: I think they use a fright wig on a stick! And then there's that other program that's on right now!
The US Version includes "Case in point". However, instead of a shot of Trevor there is a shot of Willie and Katherine.
US Version: 1.5 sec
German Version: 18 sec
Alf watches the interview on TV a little longer.
Host: One of the other networks is throwing a couple of new shows at your Thursday-night lineup! I believe it's Polka Jamboree and Here's Lucy Again!
Brandon: Lucy's always formidable, but we expect to do well! As for Polka Jamboree well, that was offered to me first and, frankly, I passed!
The US Version instead shows an alternative shot of the host and then Alf.
US Version: 4 sec
German Version: 15 sec
Brandon (on the phone): Well, what can I say, Mr. Welch? I really... I don't... I don't... I don't have an explanation! Yes, sir, I realize... I understand I turned down "Polka Jamboree" in the first place, but let me assure you, sir, that I... Hello? Hello? Brandon legt den Hörer wieder auf.
Barbara: (Oh, and it was very nice working for you, sir!)
Brandon: I'm not out of here yet!
Barbara: Yeah, right!
Brandon talks to Alf on the phone:
Brandon: Talk fast!
Alf: I called to say I'm sorry! I hope people don't lose their jobs over this Polkagate thing!
Brandon: Yeah, me too!
Cut to a worker who dismounts Brandson's name plate from the door with an electric screwdriver. The new office owner stands next to the worker and points at her watch in order to make it clear that Brandon should not stay in his office any longer.
Well, they shouldn't!
US Version: 1.5 sec
German Version: 17 sec
Brandon's name plate on the door is taken down and replaced with "Michelle Brustin's" name plate. Then follows a cut to Brandon who phones Alf while the workers empty his office.
When Brandon says Not in a million years, pal! It's too far-fetched! and then hangs up, both versions use a different take. Additionally, the German Version shows Brandon's desk being carried away.
US Version: 8 sec
German Version: 11 sec
Ron: So what made you change your mind about being a Thompson family?
Katherine: Our cat!
Willie: Big, dead one! He kept fooling around with the buttons!
Ron: You sure that Louie wasn't at the office when you called?
Katherine: It's his day off!
Ron: Fine! Just out of curiosity... (who chose you as the typical American family?)
Alf: (Hey, think of me as the son you never had!)
Willie: We have a son!
Alf: Well, then think of me as the son you never wanted!
