Compared are the cut episodes on the US DVD by Lions Gate / FOX and the uncut episodes on the German DVD by Warner Home Video.
6 cuts = 2 minutes and 24.5 seconds.
2 alternate scenes = 33 seconds.
One certainly needs to make no words about the hilarious TV show "ALF". Even those who have not seen it have at least heard of it even though it has been quite some time since something new from the ALF universe was released. Anyway, the show consists of 4 seasons and was aired in the late 80s and early 90s. Furthermore, there are two animated series ("ALF: The Animated Series" & ALF Tales) and a motion picture from the mid 90s.
As for the US Versions, a few minutes of each episode were cut for syndication in order to show more commercials. Unfortunately, these syndication versions were also released on DVD. Understandably, the fans were disappointed that the DVDs do not contain the uncut episodes. Whether or not the uncut episodes will be released one day (perhaps on Blu-ray?) is the million dollar question.
Alf plays around with gripper tongs. Then, Willie and Katherine come in.
Alf: Ahoy, humans! Welcome aboard!
Katherine: It's a good thing we went to the market!
Willie: Are you comfortable?
Alf: For the moment! If I've arranged things right, I won't have to move from this spot all day!
Willie: I hope things work out for you!
Alf: Thanks, that means a lot to me!
Alf holds a video cassette with the gripper tongs and says: Oh damn! I just can't quite seem to reach the VCR!
Katherine: Well, don't even think about getting up! I'll take care of it for you!
Alf: Thanks! Saves getting a wristful of Roquefort!
Katherine takes the cassette, looks at it and says: "Jane Fonda's Workout"?
Alf: I like to watch her while I drink my coffee! Listen, grab a plate and help yourself!
Katherine: Maybe later!
He uses the tongs to reach her a pack of crackers and asks her if she wants some. Suddenly, the doorbell rings.
Alf: That's probably the doorbell!
Katherine: Well, whoever it is, I'll get rid of them! I mean, we can't have anyone disturbing you!
Alf: Yeah, tell them to take a hike!
Katherine walks to the door.
Katherine is surprised to see her mother at the door. In between, there is a missing shot of Willie who looks similarly surprised.
In the US Version, the intro was postponed to a later moment.
In the US Version you now see the intro. As usual, the scene of Alf opening the door and walking into the room, as well as the secuence of him reaching for the cake and getting smacked on the hand by Katherine are missing.
Dorothy comes in and says: It's been too long!
Katherine: Oh, I know! What a surprise!
Dorothy: Long time! Give me a hug! They hug.
Lynn: Hi Grandma!
Dorothy: Lynn! Brian!
Dorothy: Give me a hug! Are they feeding you?
Brian: Yeah! He hugs Dorothy.
Dorothy: Obviously not enough! That was a very weak hug! Brian hugs her once more.
Dorothy: Mh! I like that one! That was good!
Lynn: Hi, Grandma! They hug.
Dorothy: Another weak hug! And another hug.
Willie: Hi Dorothy!
Dorothy: Hi Willie! They just shake hands.
Dorothy: Anyway, I am off to Hawaii with crazy Estelle!
In the US Version you instead see another exterior shot of the house, followed by a slightly different shot of Dorothy who shortly talks to Katherine and Lynn.
US Version: 7 sec
German Version: 40 sec
Willie: (I meant, no you needn't have brought any!)
Dorothy: I didn't bring any for you! I thought you'd be on the road!
Willie: Why would I be on the road?
Dorothy: You're a salesman, aren't you?
Willie: No, I work in social services!
Katherine: Mom, you knew that!
Dorothy: That's right! I don't know who I was thinking of!
Katherine: Willie Loman! Death of a Salesman!
Dorothy: I know! Crazy Estelle's son-in-law, Crazy Steve! He's a salesman and he does very well!
Dorothy: Kate, are you being sarcastic?
Katherine: Yes, I am being a little bit sarcastic!
Dorothy: Darling, that is so unbecoming!
Brian: Where is Grandma?
Lynn: She's cleaning the bathroom!
Katherine: I just cleaned that bathroom yesterday!
Lynn: And you did a great job!
Brian: That's not what Grandma-said!
Katherine: It was spotless!
Dorothy lbitches about Estelle a little longer:
Dorothy: You wanna know why she's always late? Because she spends two hours putting on makeup! As if anything could help that face!
Katherine: You are still going to Hawaii, aren't you?
Dorothy: She was actually late for her own husband's funeral! And her makeup was on crooked! As a matter of face, so was his!
Different exterior shot of the Tanners' house.
