Release: Oct 19, 2011 - Author: Doc Idaho - Translator: Sebbe - external link: IMDB - more from this series
While the Extended Version of Spartacus: Blood & Sand Season 1 seem kind of false, some of the differences in the prequel season Gods of the Arena are a real improvement, sometimes the differences just lead to another experience. And the Extended Versions really press any buttons: there are extended plot scenes, an optimized cut and new footage, especially in the sex and nudity scenes. As violent and revealing the series was, there are some scenes that make the intention to not scare the audience away. As a result of that, alterations of any kind were made.

On Blu-ray, the uncensored and uncut version has been released. For some reason, the cover of the UK Blu-ray doesn't say the UK Version contains the Extended Version as well. One won't notice until the disc is in the player.

In total, 5 of 6 episodes have been altered. Only episode 2 has remained unchanged.
A Starz-Logo is displayed at the beginning of the BD . 6s

A completely new scene of Titus talking to Oenomaus, the new doctore. He still hasn't overcome his defeat against the "Shadow of Death". But it isn't a defeat for Titus. Just to survive against this opponent is a victory. Oenomaus wishes that he can fight in the arena again. He would immediately give up his title as doctore for that. But Titus too realizes that Oenomaus is better off being a trainer and that he's important for the school. The nomination of Oenomaus as doctore is the only right decision of his son that Titus appreciates. Oenomaus is disappointed.

While at the beginning of the episode a nice cuddling-scene was extended, it's now a scene of a slave woman getting brutally deflowered which is clearly more radical and explicit in the Extended Version. Although the scene is just 9 seconds longer, there were used several alternative shots. In total there are 7 alterations. 2 short additional scenes in the Extended, 1 exclusive scene in the TV Version. 4 alternative scenes. Originally the slave woman looked forward to her first-time but when she has to do it with a dirty and stinky gladiator, it gets very uncomfortable for her.
Extended 9 seconds longer
