Release: Mar 12, 2008 - Author: Muck47 - Translator: abyss - external link: IMDB
An abandoned ship drifts to the North-American coast. The last survivor on board is a little boy. He is found and raised by an indian tribe. But after 15 years the past catches up with him. Vikings come to the land, murdering and plundering everything in their way. Now Ghost, the name of the hero, has to decide whether he helps the people, who became his family, or if he returns to his roots.

Markus Nispel, who called attention to himself with music clips at the beginning of his career and delivered a respectable blockbuster with the remake of Tobe Hooper's Texas Chainsaw Massacre, dabbled in something different with this movie. The remake of the Norwegian thriller of 1987. However, both movies don't have much in common except of the basic story. With a mixture of Conan the Barbarian and Apocalypto, Nispel managed to produce a special kind of dire adventure movie. It's known from his music clip times that he is capable of producing great pictures and camera shots. Nontheless a feature-length movie is something different than a 3-minute clip. But it all falls into place: The harmonious pictures, the dire atmosphere and the quite high level of violence make Pathfinder an exciting piece of celluloid.
Although the theatrical version is already quite violent, the unrated version caps it all off. In almost every fighting scene more blood was added using computer tricks. Surely this is the easiest way of making a movie more violent, but the effects fit in the movie seamlessly. Also the new integrated plot scenes round off the story.
The Unrated version bears its name rightly and should be favored over the theatrical version by any means.
