Compared are the cut Taiwanese DVD by Best Friend Films Limited and the uncut German Blu-ray by Splendid
- 1 cut
- Difference: 30.4 sec
There are some trivial jumpcuts as well. Two of which are being mentioned in the following comparison because of the length of more than 0.5 seconds.
Similar to The Legend 2 and Last Hero in China, this Jet Li classic was also released by Best Friend Films in Taiwan. While both of those pictures are a little longer with some exclusive footage in Taiwan, the Taiwanese version of Tai-Chi is 2 minutes shorter. The following comparison won't reveal anything out of the ordinary either: the version is cut and doesn't contain any alternate or excluive footage at all. It's as simple as that.
A large part of the two minute difference are logos and credits. Right at the beginning, a 30-second-sequence gets lost. Probably an oversight during the editing process, an actual reason for that doesn't seem to exist. Or has the fighting technique refering to Buddha been considered critical in Taiwan? That's one way to interpretate it even though it seems unlikely. Either way, it is what it is. Furthermore, there are two minor differences listed in the following comparison - nothing else but incredibly exciting jumpcuts.
The bottom line here is the fact that one can spare the effort to search for rare exotic releases.
