Compared are the shortened UK-VHS (Vampix) and the uncut German DVD (84 Entertainment / Laser Paradise).
There are 4 missing scenes with a total length of 1 minute and 15 seconds.
In the UK, several versions of Lucio Fulci's splatter classic have been released.
At first, the movie was only released in movie theaters for which 34 seconds needed to be removed. After that, a so-called Pre Cert Tape was released on VHS by Vampix (Pre Cert = Pre Certification = not yet rated by the BBFC). This tape later became one of the infamous Video Nasties which is why it's considered a collectable these days. The following comparison is about the differences of the Vampix tape.
Furthermore, another tape has been released by Elephant in 1988. In addition to the missing 34 seconds which were cut for the UK theatrical release, further footage with a length of 4:11 min had to be removed. It passed with a BBFC 18 rating. In 1993, another VHS has been released, this time by Vipco. Against other assumptions a comparison now revealed that this early Vipco version is nearly identical to the Elephant VHS. The only difference between the Elephant and this first Vipco VHS is that the Elephant VHS lacks one more scene of plot (10 Seconds). However, most likely this only comes from problems with the master.
In 2001, Vipco made another attempt. For a rerelease on VHS and the first release on DVD, the movie was submitted to the BBFC again. Even though this version lacks way less footage than the elephant tape from 1988, there's still some missing footage with a length of almost 1 minute.
In 2009, Arrow finally made it: the BBFC rated the uncensored version.
Several missing shots of the knife point penetrating Laura's body.
Another shot of the knife point penetrating her body.
Now a shot of the knife point penetrating her neck. Then, it's being pulled out again. Several shots of the blood shooting out of the wound follow.
The bloody shot of Ann's sliced throat has been shortened as well. Several footage is missing here. In between, one can see the shot of Bob walking down the stairs. He's on his way to the basement.
