Compared are the cut episodes on the US DVD by Lions Gate / FOX and the uncut episodes on the German DVD by Warner Home Video.
3 cuts = 2 minutes and 33 seconds
1 alternative scene = 9 seconds
One certainly needs to make no words about the hilarious TV show "ALF". Even those who have not seen it have at least heard of it even though it has been quite some time since something new from the ALF universe was released. Anyway, the show consists of 4 seasons and was aired in the late 80s and early 90s. Furthermore, there are two animated series ("ALF: The Animated Series" & ALF Tales) and a motion picture from the mid 90s.
As for the US Versions, a few minutes of each episode were cut for syndication in order to show more commercials. Unfortunately, these syndication versions were also released on DVD. Understandably, the fans were disappointed that the DVDs do not contain the uncut episodes. Whether or not the uncut episodes will be released one day (perhaps on Blu-ray?) is the million dollar question.
After Alf said that he will not eat the salad, which is supposed to be taken off his diet plan, Willie says: Try it! I know it's tough, but nobody wants to see you implode!
Willie looks at Katherine and then changes his sentence to: Well, practically nobody!
Alf pokes around in the salad.
Alf: Where's the dressing?
Katherine: I squeezed lemon juice on it for you!
Alf: Oh, for a minute there, I was worried it might be dry and tasteless!
When Alf continues to brag about the salad, Katherine says: Oh, for heaven's sake, don't eat the damn sald!
Alf: I'm serious!
Willie's following sentence is shown in a different shot in both versions: Alf, you pleaded with us to help you lose weight! Now, if you think I can be conned into letting you off the hook because of some ridiculous story like that... well, I'm a bigger fool than you are!
US Version: 14 sec
German Version: 21 sec
When nobody seems to take Alf's problems and their consequences seriously, he says: Okay, but I'm telling you it's gonna get weird!
After a shot of the house the camera cuts to the kitchen where Katherine is momentarily cooking a meal.
Katherine: Hurry up, Bri, you're gonna be late for school!
Willie: Melon and rice cake, 120 calories!
Brian: We're not all eating that, are we?
Katherine: To answer your question, Bri, no, it's just for Alf!
Lynn: Is he handling his diet any better?
Katherine: Better? No, I wouldn't say better! You should have seen the stunt he tried to pull last night!
Lynn: Poor guy, this really isn't very easy for him!
Brian: Yesterday I caught him licking all the empty trashcans and he offered me 5 Dollars not to tell any... Oops!
Suddenly we can hear Alf bawling and crying from outside. The others are shocked and run to where the noises come from.
The US Version instead shows a different shot of Alf in the garden, where he bawls dessed up as a Native American.
US Version: 2 sec
German Version: 48 sec
When Alf goes crazy in the garden, there is some missing dialog:
Willie: Wolf! Come on in the house, you've made your point!
Alf: No good! Wolf must trap and hunt own food before get too weak and become food!
A woman and her daughter are standing in fron of the Tanners' door and thank Katherine for finding their lost dog in the park. Katherine answers that this was no problem at all and that she is happy to return the dog before anything happened to him. When Katherine closed the door, we can hear the dog barking and a car making a full break while honking. When Katherine opens the door to check what is going on, Willie tells her not to open the door. Katherine agrees and lets go of the door.
The US Version instead shows an exterior shot of the house. Both versions continue when Alf enters the living room.
US Version: 3 sec
German Version: 18 sec
A longer shot of Alf.
