Release: Mar 06, 2012 - Author: -Der-Tribun - Translator: Tony Montana - external link: IMDB
My Little Pony is probably one of the more popular franchises that only exist for merchandise reasons. The series always suffered because the people in charge thought that stories about talking ponies were only interesting for young girls who hadn't hit puberty yet. As a result, the quality of the series was very low.

But after the franchise was totally screwed up lately, the producers tried something entirely different for the 4th pony generation.
Friendship is Magic is the latest series but the first one with a new formula. Instead of cliché plots, the series focuses on humor that is funny for both kids and adults. Clichés are being spoofs without showing any mercy and the ponies themselves come up with wicked comments now. All these things are the reason why the series became a major success with a huge fanbase.

The series begins with the unicorn Twilight Sparkle and her assistant Spike (a dragon) being sent to Ponyville to keep tabs on Princess Celestia's preparation for the solstice celebration. Twilight is very well aware that Celestia intends to help to get her out of her social isolation and find some friends. She doubts it'll work but she doesn't have the slightest clue how wrong she is and how much the future of the entire country depends on it.

Although it seemed impossible, one of the episodes was censored afterwards.

Compared are the Censored Version and the Original / Uncensored Version.

First of all a couple of facts to understand the alterations.

In the very first episode of the series, an odd-looking grey Pegasus pony showed up. Her eyes weirdly twisted and her facial expression kind of interesting. Originally intended to be a running gag, this character became one of the most popular in a very short time. The producers realized that, so the character was used regularly for many background gags.

In the established characterization, she was listed as Derpy Hooves soon. According to the fanbase (not disproved yet), Derpy is the mailman - or in this particular case the "mailpony" - of Ponyville. She's a single mom, her daughter is called Dinky. Though she takes her duties seriously, she often comes up with bad ideas. Combined with her goofiness, it can have serious consequences very quickly.

Censored Derpy

In the episode "The Last Roundup", Derpy has her first real dialog. In that scene, Rainbow Dash witnessed Derpy's goofiness for the first time. On the one hand, the entire scene is incredibly hilarious. But then again, this scene attracted the attention of the buzzkills among the fans. A tiny minority complained about Derpy making fun of the mentally diabled. As absurd this accusation is, Hasbro simply panicked and altered the scene.

The entire scene got a sound. Derpy sounds entirely different now (though the dialog almost remains unchanged):

Die originale Szene

Die neu vertonte Szene

Very conspicuous is the following difference:

Original Version: "Now, careful, Derpy!"

Censored Version: "Now, careful..."

The reason why Derpy's name isn't mentioned anymore is simple: the übersensitives, who accused the series of making fun of the mentally disabled, could get upset.

In addition to that, the footage was altered. In most scenes, Derpy's characteristical twisted eyes were removed. The sad thing is that Derpy's most important distinguishing characteristic is missing now. Please find some examples below.

Due to the altered sound, the scene seems less funny.
