Comparison:

  • Theatrical Version
  • Unrated
Release: Jun 30, 2016 - Author: Blade41 - Translator: Tony Montana - external link: IMDB
There were times where it felt like every single US comedy flick got a longer Unrated Version for home theaters. Nowadays, this is rarely the case. An exception is the solid and quite vulgar Dirty Grandpa starring Zac Efron aand Robert De Niro. The Unrated is approx. 7.5 minutes longer but the additional footage does not make that comedy actually better. Yes, there is more vulgarity in the dialogs but there is also more stupidity. The prison scenes illustrates that perfectly. There is no additional nudity by the way which is rather rare when it comes to an Unrated Version of a US comedy.

Compared are the Theatrical Version and the Unrated Version, both released by Lions Gate Home Entertainment.

There are 17 differences:
9 additional scenes/shots in the Unrated Version
1 additional scene/shot in the Theatrical Version
7 scenes with alternate/extended footage

The Unrated Version is 452.73 seconds longer (~ 7:33 minutes) than the Theatrical Version.

He explains he had 4 children by 6 women, that he was aware that the numbers do not match and that some of the children were mentally disabled. Dick flips a coin in the jar. Tan Pan honors the generosity and says a part of the money was for his children and the rest would be used for a blowjob at the dumpsters at McDonald's.

Unrated:
All of a sudden, Pam appears behind Jason and asks Gary to let him go because it was late and he needed to open the store. Even though Pam sold drugs to children, Gary lets him walk. One of the reasons is Pam's diarrhea. He does not want that smell in there. Jason can't believe what just happened. When Pam approaches the exit, he encounters Finch, Gary's partner. They fool around a little. He says he had come with a bag of drugs the day before and he would like to have it back. In the background, Gary fidgets with that bag and tosses it to Pam. Before Pam leaves, he asks the two cops to vote for him in the mayoral election.

Jason attempts to get out of jail as well and tries to talk his way out. He explains he respected the job and he was working in law enforcement himself. He adds he always wanted to do what they were doing - even as a kid. Gary says they were called "pigs" very often and fast food bags were tossed in their direction regularly. Jason says he was sorry and explains he was a lawyer. Gary and Finch then make fun of Jason. Even when Jason insists to get his phone call. This scene is pretty trashed out. Eventually, Finch gets Jason's cell phone. They believe creating a Tinder/Grindr account for Jason would be funny. They suggest a guy named "Jefe" to Jason.

Theatrical Version:

Basically, the scene is identical. There are slight alterations though. There is a bit more ridiculousness in the Unrated Version. All of a sudden, Pam appears behind Jason and asks Gary to let him go because it was late and he needed to open the store. Even though Pam sold drugs to children, Gary lets him walk after a few nice words. When Pam approaches the exit, he encounters Finch, Gary's partner. He says he had come with a bag of drugs the day before and he would like to have it back. In the background, Gary fidgets with that bag and tosses it to Pam. Pam notices Gary's muscles he gained from growth hormones. Jason says he was sorry and explains he was a lawyer who knew his rights and he was allowed to make a phone call.
