T.S. Spivet - Weinstein Wanted to Recut the Film

Jean-Pierre Jeunet Criticizes Infamous US Producer

While the Franco-Canadian production The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet by director Jean-Pierre Jeunet was released in the UK with a censorship incident, the US still awaits its release. And the reason for that seems to be Harvey Weinstein who currently holds the rights for the US territory.

Jeunet wrote on his website: "When Harvey Weinstein signed TS Spivet for the United States, he had seen the finished film. And Gaumont had made it clear that since I had the final cut, I would not change even the smallest detail. A fact that didn’t stop him from trying to bully his way into redoing the film in his own way. As he always does with films."

In the meantime, The Weinstein Company reacted to Jeunet's comment and confirmed that the film will be released in theaters without any cuts in early 2015 and their statement sheds some light on the issues that the distributor might have had regarding the film's content:

TWC via Indiewire: "A great family-friendly film. We did have some concerns over some of the scenes that, while they may be family-friendly in France, may not be seen that way in the U.S."

That's understandable, considering that many talk shows deemed it a big scandal that 50 Shades of Grey was suitable for French viewers at the age of 12.
