The Secret Life of Walter Mitty Censored Globally Some time ago, we reported that The Secret Life of Walter Mitty was censored in the UK in order to achieve the lucrative PG rating and avoid the "BBFC 12" classification. For that, the distributor reduced a scene of threat and removed a pin-up poster. That exact same version came out later on home video in the UK, as well. Still, one could suspect that this censorship is Britain-exclusive and we would have liked to compare it to an uncut release from a different territory. However, imagine our surprise when we compared the PG version to the German FSK 6 release and found out that they were absolutely identical. But there was some wiggle room left since the past showed some cases where all European releases were based on the same film master and thus all cut due to the UK. We therefore wanted to make sure and ordered the US release. After we compared the UK PG with the US PG version, we have to come to the conclusion that it is also identical. The most threatening part of the fight scene is this:
And this is included in all 3 versions in the exact same way. And, believe us, a pin-up poster wouldn't have passed us by unnoticed. Until challenged otherwise, the assumption must now be that those censorship measures have found their way into the whole home video realm. ![]()
