Last Vegas and the Reason for the Initial R-Rating

Director Says 1 Term Threatened the PG-13

A short time ago, we reported that Last Vegas underwent a successfull appeal at the MPAA which caused the rating to be lowered from "R" to "PG-13". In an interview, director John Turteltaub explains what the initial problem was.

John Turteltaub: "The final objection came down to the use of the word “blow job.”  There was issue as to whether that word could be in a PG-13 movie.  There was some precedent, and I had to make my speech, as to why I thought it was important and why the movie needed it."

So, although it would have been interesting to hear what the argumentation was to stress the necessity of this term, it's remarkable nontheless that "blow job" was the trigger and nothing else.

Turteltaub also said that the PG-13 rating was needed because the film's target group might be sensitive to this issue:

John Turteltaub: "... There are a lot of people over age 70, who might not want to go see an R-rated movie. I wanted to let people under 17 and over 70 know that they can go see this film."

Last Vegas is in US cinemas since November 1st, 2013, while the UK will have to wait until January 3rd, 2014.
