The Wolverine: Unrated Extended Cut Confirmed

3D Blu-ray Combo Pack Features Harder Version

When a film franchise like X-Men is grossing so much money, it's understandable that studios want to maximize their profit by designing the movies in a way that allows a mass audience to go see it in cinemas. Of course, that doesn't necessarily sit well with the comic fans, who know their beloved characters way different. In their drawn form, they don't have to be tamer so that the MPAA doesn't have a problem with giving them a PG-13 rating. But for their film version, this is an issue and the studios mostly favor the money over authenticity. Wolverine is no exception in this and so both theatrical endeavours so far were rated PG-13.

While X-Men Origins: Wolverine stayed that way on DVD/BD later on, The Wolverine seems to go a different path. Director James Mangold revealed in an interview earlier that he planned on putting out a harder version of the movie and this turns out to become reality. 20th Century Fox announced that they will release three editions of the film on US home video. While the DVD and normal Blu-ray will only feature the theatrical version, a 3D Blu-ray Combo Pack will have both the theatrical and Unrated Extended Cut on board. Only this longer version will have an audio commentary by Mangold, so maybe he has to share some thoughts on this more violent cut of the film. It looks like other countries will get this treat, as well, which is a nice thing. We're looking forward to making the comparison.

The US release date for The Wolverine is December 3rd, 2013, while the UK is earlier with a release date on November 18th, 2013. You can pre-order it at Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk.
