G.I. Joe - Retaliation Gets an Extended Version
Before it hit cinemas, director Jon M. Chu informed the media that his G.I. Joe - Retaliation had to be censored for the PG-13 rating and that a lot of unused material remained on the cutting room floor. Especially with the heavy delay caused by the decision to post-convert the movie into 3D in 2012 in order to attract more viewers, the budget inflated. The worldwide box office numbers seem to cover those expenses, however.
But why wouldn't any studio in their right mind use the opportunity to make some extra cash with the DVD/BD when they could add a sweetener for the customers? Right, barely any and that's why we can report that G.I. Joe - Retaliation will in fact have an extended version. The German ratings board FSK published the info in its database and lists two running times. Since we can't say for sure whether they used PAL or NTSC standards, the additional material will add up to either 8 or 12 minutes of runtime.
There is currently no information whether the US or UK releases will also include this longer version of the movie.
