Battlestar Galactica: Blu-ray Release in the US
After the sensational success of Star Wars in 1977, the next space opera followed just a year later in the form of Battlestar Galactica. Even though it was meant for TV in the beginning, the pilot film was released in cinemas in a shortened version, as well. At first, that happened only in foreign countries but was done in the US after the TV airing, as well. We have more details regarding the 12 minutes of differences in our comparison. Apart from that, the theatrical version offers some more violence that may have been too much for TV back in the day (see comparison).
For the film's 35th anniversary, Universal will release the shorter theatrical version on Blu-ray in the US. However, there will be absolutely no bonus material. After it was exclusively available at Best Buy, the general release follows on August 6th, 2013.
You can order the Blu-ray here.
