Phantasm 2 Stays R-Rated in US, Even on Blu-ray
The Phantasm franchise has 4 entries and not every title had an easy past in terms of censorship. For example Phantasm II which had to be censored in the US in order to achieve the "R" rating. It never came out in a different version in the States.
However, this is one of the few films where a rough cut exists and is available. It offers insight into the US censorship and is available on the Austrian DVDs by XT Video where it can be found in the bonus section. We also have a comparison in our archive.
The upcoming Blu-ray will not solve this situation. Even though it's the first time in HD, the film will only be available as the "R" rated version. It will be released on March 26th, 2013.
