The Possession: Unrated Version in Great Britain
Ole Bornedal's horror film The Possession started in US cinemas in autumn 2012. Unfortunately, viewers only got to see a censored version since distributor Lionsgate wanted a PG-13 rating in order to attract more customers. The MPAA gave the movie an "R" rating and stuck with that decision even after Lionsgate appealed it. They then proceeded to censor the movie for their desired rating.
The DVD and Blu-ray are said to contain the uncut version of the movie and this proves true at least for the UK so far. The artwork reads "Uncut Edition" and the BBFC lists The Possession with the remark "Unrated Version" in their database. A comparison of the runtimes show that this cut will be 1.5 minutes longer than the theatrical version. It will be released in the UK on January 21st, 2013.
An interesting aspect is that this version isn't yet announced for the US. The upcoming DVD/Blu-ray show no sign of this unrated version. But maybe the artwork will be enriched with that remark. Otherwise, US customers will have to buy the British releases if they want to make sure that they get the full treatment.
