Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome Arrives
The first spin-off from the successful series Battlestar Galactica was called Caprica and was a dare since it concentrated on a contentwise continuationof the story and didn't simply copy the main aspect that made BSG such a big hit: the space battles. After just one season of this prequel series, which also had a longer hiatus in between, it was cancelled and a new series, set between Caprica and BSG, was supposed to direct the focus more on action in space again. Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome is set during the first war against the cylones and not in the seemingly peaceful times as Caprica was.
Unfortunately, the SyFy channel got cold feet and so just a pilot episode was filmed. The airing of this episode was delayed several times and as EW.com reports, it will now not even get a TV premiere. Instead, the pilot will be split up into 10 parts with a runtime of 7-10 minutes each and shown on the online platform Machinima. It will start this friday while the TV premiere will follow in 2013 (at least in one piece).
It gets more interesting next year when Blood and Chrome will be available as an Unrated Cut on DVD/BD. And as the past shows, that could turn out as quite a benefit when we look at the changes that were made in the pilot episode of Caprica (see comparison).
