Man with the Iron Fists: Director's Cut Possible

Director RZA and Co-Author Eli Roth Talk Versions

After a production history over several years, the script and directing debut of Wu-Tang Clan member RZA seems to be completed and ready for cinemas. The Man with the Iron Fists was co-written by Eli Roth and is presented by Quentin Tarantino and stars Lucy Liu, Russell Crowe, among others. It's supposed to be a wild mixture of 70's kung fu, 90's gangster rap and comic book style from the doughties. The Red-Band-Trailer shows quite vividly that this mix isn't doomed to fail.

In an interview with Collider, RZA and Roth shared some info regarding the runtime and different cuts of the movie. Especially RZA share some insight and made Roth look a little uneasy since he didn't seem to be too keen on releasing too many details on that issue yet. RZA said that the film's rough cut had an initial duration of 4 hours. Apparently, that was all the material that got filmed in the process. After plans were scrapped to release the film in two parts, there is still the idea to put out a longer cut on DVD/BD. But that also depends on how well the film is received and how many tickets are bought at the box office.

Even though Roth refused to go into detail about the runtime and content of the longer cut ("NO!"), he said that the theatrical cut would show a perfect film with a perfectly fitting story that would work just fine even without all the kung fu scenes. All that seems to say: watch the film in theaters since that is already good and maybe you'll get a little bonus in the form of a DC later on. Business as usual.

The Man with the Iron Fists started in the US on November 2nd and will open in the UK on December 7th, 2012.
