Modern Warfare 2 - Map Subsequently Censored
Even though it's released for more than 3 years now, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 still generates controversy. Earlier this month, the multiplayer map Favela was removed from the game but now re-integrated via patch. The reason: picture frames.
In this map, there's a room with two pictures on the wall. While their subject shows harmless nature shots, their frames seem to be the problem here since they showed a quote by the prophet Mohammed that read: "Allah is beautiful and He loves beauty.".
When that was discovered, complaints followed and the map was removed in early October 2012. The exact reasons are unknown but it's assumed that Muslim gamers could be offended by the picture frames or the text on them because they are placed in a bathroom right above the toilet.
Now, the map is available again. The pictures are on the same position but the frames are just black now. Why it took so long to make this edit is unknown, too.
Activision apologized publicly and declared that they did not want to offend anybody.
