Violence Discussion Surrounding Borderlands 2
Borderlands 2 has been released a short time ago but Gearbox Entertainment can celebrate already. The critics are astonished, Metacritic lists an average rating of 90 and it ranges in the high places of the retail charts.
However, not all fans seem to share the euphoria surrounding the game. Quickly, reports emerged that the level of violence decreased in comparison to the first game. This led to severe discussions and even the assumption as to whether this was a bug in the program code. But then, in an interview with kotaku.com, Gearbox Entertainment's CEO Randy Pitchford addressed the issue:
This statement implies that Gearbox toned down the violent elements right from the start to minimize problems with more "sensitive" countries like Germany. Another reason to speculate offers the closing comment by Pitchford:
Still, the community continues to express their discomfort. Meanwhile, a petition has been started to prompt Gearbox to make Borderlands 2 "uncensored". The relevant complaints thread in Gearbox's message board reached 93 (!) pages while we did research for this article. Time will tell if the users' attempts lead to anything.
