Raaz 3: The Third Dimension With Problems in UAE
The Arabian territories are an important market for Indian films. However, the Islam-dominated countries often demand censorship. This also affects the Indian horror romance Raaz 3: The Third Dimension (yes, in 3D). The UAE denied it the rating. Among others, too raunchy scenes were responsible for this decision. In comparison to Western productions, the Indian films are quite harmless in their erotic scenes but that still was too much for the UAE.
Another aspect that threatened the rating was the depiction of ghosts and spirituality. This is also a problem in other countries such as China, where e.g. skeletons had to be censored in the MMPORG World of Warcraft.
Vijay Singh, CEO of the production company Fox Star, confirmed the difficulties with censorship. They work with the authorities in order to be able to release the film after all, even if cuts have to be made. This would be especially important since the stars of the case were in Dubai just recently to promote the film.
