On the Road - Drama gets a new, shortened cut
Walter Salles' adaptation of the novel On the Road had its premiere on this year's Cannes festival. However, the main buzz in the media didn't arise from the film's quality but from the fact that leading star Kristen Stewart is going to be naked on camera for the first time. Apart from the festival attendants, the normal public could already see the film since it started regularly in French cinemas.
Still, it is likely that not every country gets to see the version that was screened in Cannes and French cinemas because Salles sat down in the editing room once more and produced a new cut of On the Road. The director took 15 minutes out of his 137 min. long movie but also inserted scenes not included in the Cannes cut. In this new form, the drama's duration is slightly above 2 hours.
This new cut will have its premiere on the Toronto International Film Festival while the regular US release follows on December 21st, 2012 through Sundance Selects. It remains unclear which version will be shown in other countries. At least France can expect to get the Cannes cut since the already announced home video releases are scheduled for October 17th, 2012.
