Elfie Hopkins only censored in the UK

Horror film cut for BBFC 15 for cinemas and DVD

A teenage girl thinks to make a good detective and therefore spies on the new family in the neighborhood because something might be wrong with them.

This rough synopsis for Elfie Hopkins sounds more like a crime film for teenagers but then again, it seems to contain such explicit material that the BBFC classified it as being suitable only for adults. The uncut version got the BBFC 18 rating. However, this was too high for distributor Kaleidoscope Entertainment  and they chose to cut it down to a BBFC 15 for the theatrical release. The BBFC's database says the following:

Company chose to make reductions in two scenes of bloody violence in order to achieve a '15' classification (a frenzied stabbing with a knife and a man's head being shot). Cuts made in accordance with BBFC Guidelines and policy. An uncut '18' classification was available.

Unfortunately, it happens quite often that the UK get such cut versions later on the home video releases, as well. It's the same with Elfie Hopkins, where the DVD and Blu-ray are also only rated BBFC 15. Potential customers should thus wait for an uncut release in other countries and avoid the versions that come out on August 13th, 2012 in the UK.
