Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is rated R
It's common practice that film studios show their upcoming blockbusters to test audiences several months prior to the official cinematical run in order to see the reactions towards the more or less completed films. Should a movie fail this test, there is still plenty of time to make adjustments.
Occasionally, two different cuts are shown in order to get a tendency with which rating a film should be put in theaters later. The most recent case is the fantasy action Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, starring Jeremy Renner (Avengers, Bourne Legacy) and Gemma Arterton (Bond: Skyfall). It was screened to different audiences in two different R-Rated cuts with different levels of violence and humor. Apparently, the audience clearly favored the harder cut.
The question is whether Paramount will follow the test audience's judgement. However, it's positive that the film that is not so true to the original fairy-tale is going to be R in cinemas. It remains the question as to how graphic the film gets in the end.
