The Hunger Games - 2 versions for Great Britain
With a worldwide box office of 660 million Dollars, the film adaptation of the novel The Hunger Games was one of the most successful entries of this year's cinematical program. In the US alone, the film generated more than 400 million Dollars. A reason for this can surely be found in the PG-13 rating that was the aim right from the start of production. Outside of the US, the film got similar ratings, e.g. "FSK 12" in Germany and "BBFC 12A" in the UK.
The latter did, however, only get this rating in a censored version because distributor Lionsgate UK did not want to release The Hunger Games with a "15" rating. Therefore, the label made several cuts in violent scenes and also removed or darkened some blood effects digitally.
This very version will also find its way into the British stores, at least on DVD. The Blu-ray, being rated with a BBFC 15, will feature the completely uncut version. This so-called "Unseen Version" will hit the shelves in the UK on September 3rd, 2012.
