Neighborhood Watch - Poster and trailer pulled
Even before the marketing campaign for the comedy Neighborhood Watch starring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill has really taken off, the death of Trayvon Martin, who was shot by a neighborhood watch captain, produced some bad publicity for the film. The shooting of Martin was covered by the press and shortly after that, some Florida citizens started to feel offended by the poster and first teaser trailer for the film.
Specifically, they mentioned the traffic sign on the poster which is perforated by gunshots and a gesture by Jonah Hill's character symbolizing the usage of a handgun (as depicted below).
Distributor 20th Century Fox reacted immediately and issued a statement clarifying that the film's content has nothing to do with the real life event:
According to Hollywood Reporter, Fox also announced to pull the trailer and replace the teaser poster in Florida. It remains to be seen if this event has any long-term effect on the film's perception since its release lies several months in the future.
Neighborhood Watch is scheduled for release on July 27t
