Expendables 2 - Dolph Lundgren says it's R

First R, then PG-13 and now back to R again?

The chaos surrounding the rating of the upcoming Expendables 2 continues. After the first one was as R as it could get and managed to pull in big money at the box office, part 2 was greenlit almost immediately. We're supposed to get new and old stars in the sequel and normally, that would be a reason to be quite satisfied. Only Chuck Norris spoiled the fun when he mentioned that the new film would be PG-13. Shortly after that, Sylvester Stallone himself confirmed this but assured fans that the film would satisfy them in every way.

Logically, this caused a lot of frustration among the fanbase. All the more surprising was Sly's statement that he gave to StalloneZone:

"After taking in all the odd rumors and hearsay, EXPENDABLES II is an R."

All big news sites cited this but a little scepticism stayed since this was the only source with this information. However, co-star Dolph Lundgren now added some fuel to the fire by saying that the sequel would go in a more adult direction. He told Empire:

"I heard that it’s now R again [...] Stallone’s basic setting is to make it very violent. That’s just in his personality, and if it was me I would do the same. I guess the producers figure they can make another $50m if it’s PG-13, and if it was my money I might say the same thing! But I think for the fans, if it’s tougher it’s better."

Quite amusing is Lundgren's remark about Chuck Norris who spoke out against an R-rated movie:

"Chuck likes to re-cut all of his films before he shows them to his kids, [...] He told me he has his own editor. So it's irrelevant! He could make it a G-rating if he wanted to!"

Well, if all of the above is the way Lundgren says it is, it seems to be a compromise everybody could live with.
