Hard Target

Comparison between Unrated and Sneak Preview

After a few test screenings in the USA, "Hard Target" was slightly edited prior it´s official release. Most cuts only happen on the time scale of seconds and are trivial. However, this version also shows may scenes who fell victim to movie-censorship and therefore are not included in any official version worldwide - for example the famous ear-scene. The sneak preview version of "Hard Target" is one two inofficial circulating versions. However, in comparison with the considerably more known workprint, this version is already edited and finished.

The Grudge

Comparison between Theatrical Version and Unrated Director's Cut

The remake of Japanese horror movie "The Grudge" was released in two different versions. The theatrical cut was trimmed to receive the PG-13 rating and was released to theaters throughout the globe. On DVD this version was later released as well but aside from that an uncensored version got into the stores, marked as "Unrated Extended Director's Cut" that blew the PG-13 cut right out of the water.

Comparison between R-Rated and Workprint

The final and very dramatic role of Brandon Lee enjoys cult status in the movie community by now. But there is much more film material of this very dark comic conversion from an earlier workprint, which contains mainly much more violence as well as more storyline. But this version was never released theatrically and had to be shortened to receive an R-Rating.

Introduction

Dear English readers,

today we start an English part of our so far only in German hosted website. The project “Schnittberichte” (Censorship Reports) was created 8 years ago and deals with the comparison of different versions of movies, e.g. R-Rated and Unrated cuts.

Although the majority of reports deals with German censorship, the last years added comparisons between theatrical versions and Unrated, Extended and Director's Cuts which have also an international relevance. But also the large number of censorship reports to very rare versions worldwide should be of interest.

These are translated from our German speaking colleagues, who volunteered for the project. The fact that few of our translators are native speakers can lead to linguistic inaccuracy or errors. Therefore we will provide a special correction board for our English readers.

The assortment of Censorship Reports is limited to actual comparisons first, which produced interest in the German-speaking part. At first there will be a small start package, which we try to expand with continuous updates of more reports.

We hope you enjoy reading our comparisons.
